Philip Preston is a man with many hobbies, from boating, to restoring vintage cars and raising chickens. But the hobby which has put him on the map, so to speak, is designing and building kitchen gadgets in his garage.

It may seem strange that an appliance we use in the kitchen comes from someone garage, or even stranger, a lab. However, if you think about it most kitchen appliances and gadgets were once only found in the company of so-called crazy inventors, including the gas range, refrigerator and food processor.

So what does this kitchen gadget inventor have to offer us? One of his inventions is the Anti-Griddle, a device which can flash-freeze food to -30 degrees almost instantaneously. While this gadget has become popular with many high-end restaurants around the country, Preston is still working on others. One such gadget is designed to make flavored snow - not just a slushy with flavoring, actual snow.

As the missing link between scientists and chefs, and the president of Polyscience (a laboratory equipment manufacturer), Preston is leading the way in new kitchen technology.
