The Best of Both Worlds
A recent trend in home improvement is to mix the old with the new, and kitchens are no exception. One homeowner decided to keep the vintage feel of her 25 year old kitchen, while at the same time adding new and modern kitchen gadgets. She also included cabinets as inspired by the Italian cabinetry company Poliform/Varenna.
She was careful to conceal the newer kitchen appliances in keeping with the traditional style of the rest of the house. Also, the kitchen is visible from the dining room, foyer and living room, all of which are more vintage than the new kitchen.
The kitchen incorporates a number of different light and dark materials, including white subway tiles on the walls, carrara marble countertops and dark wood floors. The center piece is a large island, surrounded by African wenge wood and dark brown lacquer cabinets and dated appliances. This vintage modern kitchen truly combines the old and new with elegance and style.
