Ever wondered what happens to out-of-date technology? Chris Dimino, the artist behind “The Corona-Matic”, has an answer; make it into something new. This small kitchen appliance is a unique waffle iron created from an old typewriter. With a passion for designing and building 3D art, Dimino re-worked this center piece of mid to late 20th century industry into an appliance which synchronisticly inspires hunger and nostalgia.

Sure to be the center of attention at breakfast time, this particular gadget is just one of the many examples of conceptual and problem solving solutions displayed on Dimino’s website.

Other functioning objects created by the artist to incorporate old typewriters include the “Typovac”, a working vacuum, an solemn urn named “Ashes to Ashes”, and the more playful “Sudden Death Typewriter Table Hockey”, which was wholly constructed from typewriter components. Additional home appliances include a gas mask which functions as a shower head and a cuckcoo clock inspired by the movie “The Shining”.

So if you are looking for some creative ways to make breakfast more interesting, why not start by making shaped waffles? Then let your imagination take hold and see where it takes you…
